“I’ve already started thinking about songs for my son.” – John Legend
John Legend is going to have his work cut out for him once his son arrives.
“Luna’s gonna be an issue. I think she’ll probably have some growing pains because she’s currently running the house right now,” Legend said of 2-year-old daughter Luna while chatting with Sara Bareilles at a Tribeca Talks event as part of the Tribeca Film Festival on Thursday.
“She’s used to being the center of everything right now so we’ll see how she adjusts to sharing the spotlight.”
Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, announced her pregnancy in November.
The “A Good Night” singer, who also shared stories about his early career and childhood during the event with Bareilles, said that he’s gotten tips from friends in preparation for being a second-time parent, including buying a gift from the baby to “give” to his older sister.
“I’ve [also] heard that I should bring Luna to him so it doesn’t feel like we’re all just sitting there with this new guy, like, ‘Who this?’” Legend said to the “Waitress” composer, who starred alongside him in the recent live NBC production of “Jesus Christ Superstar.”
Legend, who wrote “Right By You” off his last album for his daughter, mentioned, “I’ve already started thinking about songs for my son.”
But he and and his unborn child already have something to bond over.
“I was No. 2 in my family,” he told the crowd at the SVA Theater. “My older brother travels with me all the time, he works with me, he cuts my hair, he takes all of the photos you see on my Instagram of all my shows. He’s always been really supportive of me and takes good care of me so I have a good example of what a good older sibling should be like.”
Legend, who is a partner in Get Lifted Film Company, debuted his documentary “United Skates” later in the evening. It was submitted for competition.
